Team play began on Thursday with Canada’s women’s and men’s teams both playing qualifying two qualifying round matches apiece at Scotstoun Sports Complex.

GLASGOW, Scotland -- On the first day of the rhythmic gymnastics competition at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday, Patricia Bezzoubenko of Thornhill, Ont., Maria Kitkarska of Montreal and Annabelle Kovacs of Vancouver combined to win the team gold medal for Canada. 

In Commonwealth Games squash action today, Canada’s lone female squash player Samantha Cornett (Deep River, Ont.) blew by her first round opponent this afternoon in three games (11-5, 11-7,11-7), earning a berth in the round of 16 on Friday.

The Canadian team had a smooth start in the Mixed Teams competition, easily winning against the Falkland Islands 5-0.

Each contingent of the Canadian team overwhelmed their respective opponents 2-0 without allowing many points.

 The Canadian women’s field hockey team lost their opening match of the 2014 Commonwealth games competition after an animated and close match against India (4-2).

With the first day of competition upon us in Glasgow, many in Canada wouldn’t realize that not all Canadian athletes have arrived yet in Glasgow.
