Three Boxing Wins in a Row in Glasgow
With three wins in a row, Canadian boxers are off to a great start in the preliminary rounds at the Commonwealth Games.
In the second day of action, the youngest boxers from the seven roster team, 19 year old Arthur Biyarslanov, from Ontario, won a unanimous decision over Ghana’s Musah Lawson. The winning path continued with Nova Scotia’s, 23 year old Brody Blair, 75kg defeating Abdul Bangura from Sierra Leon on points 2-1 after the bout was stopped due to cuts on both eyebrows caused by an unintentional foul.
Biyarslanov in his most important bout of his life found a very strong competitor, who always came forward.
“I pushed myself to the end and kept throwing punches giving my 100% in the ring,” said Biyarslanov, the Toronto southpaw trained by veteran coach Adrian Teodorescu.
Blair, the 2011 Pan American bronze medalist faced an experienced boxer and went into the bout with high expectations. After the bout, Blair’s cuts were treated by doctors and should be able to box again on Monday when he will face Benny Muziyo, from Zambia.
“We are extremely happy today because Arthur and Brody, both look strong in winning their bouts,” said Daniel Trepanier, Boxing Canada Coach.
The next Canadians to box will be 60kg David Gauthier vs Joseph Cordina (Wales) and 64kg Arthur Biyarslanov, vs Manoj Kumar from India. These bouts will be on Sunday the 27th in the afternoon session.
