When the doors open at Glasgow's iconic Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Team Canada's track cyclists will be ready to chase medals in one of the fastest and most exciting competitions at the Commonwealth Games.
Track cycling has long been one of Canada's strongest Commonwealth sports, producing memorable performances through a blend of explosive speed, tactical racing and world-class talent. Glasgow 2026 promises to be no different.
Canada's team features a mix of experienced Commonwealth Games athletes and rising stars eager to make their mark. Maggie Coles-Lyster, Sarah Orban and Tyler Rorke all return after competing in Birmingham in 2022, while five teammates prepare for their Commonwealth Games debut.
One of Canada's top medal hopes is Coles-Lyster, who won bronze in the scratch race four years ago and arrives in Glasgow in the strongest form of her career.
"I'm really excited to be coming back to compete at the Commonwealth Games again," said Coles-Lyster. "I have nothing but fond memories from the last Commonwealth Games. My goals are definitely winning one—or multiple—gold medals. I've grown a lot as an athlete since then and I'm feeling the best I've ever felt in my career."
Canada's sprint squad will compete in the Team Sprint, Sprint and Keirin, while the endurance riders take on the Scratch Race, Elimination Race, Points Race and Individual Pursuit.
"Our athletes will have the opportunity to showcase Team Canada against some of the best teams in the Commonwealth," said National Team Coach Franck Durivaux.
Canada enters Glasgow with momentum after winning five medals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and building on that success with strong performances on the international circuit over the past four years.
The Commonwealth Games have long served as an important stepping stone for Canadian cyclists, providing valuable multi-sport Games experience while showcasing some of the world's best racing.
Fans can expect dramatic finishes, tactical battles and breathtaking speed when competition begins. Whether it's the power of the sprint events or the strategy of the endurance races, Team Canada's cyclists are well positioned to challenge for the podium and continue the country's proud tradition of success on the track.
