Moors “floors” the competition at Toyota International gymnastics event

TOYOTA -- Canada’s high-flying Victoria Moors nailed her signature move in the women’s floor routine to win her second gold medal in as many days on Sunday at the Toyota International gymnastics event.

Moors, from Cambridge Ont., (Dynamo), landed her dazzling double-twisting, double somersault in the layout position, en route to a score of 14.600 points in the women’s floor exercise, more than a full point ahead of runner-up Pia Tolle of Germany with 13.400 points.

Moors, one of two holdovers from Canada’s record-breaking women’s 2012 Olympic team, became the first female gymnast to land the “double-double” in competition at the 2013 world championships two months ago in Antwerp, Belgium.

Subsequently, the move was officially named the Moors by the international gymnastics federation.

Moors added a silver medal in the beam competition to give her a total of three medals for the weekend, including her first gold won on Saturday in the uneven bars event.

Natsumi Sasada of Japan won the beam gold with a score of 14.700 points with Moors in second at 14.350.

In the mens competition, Zachary Clay of Chilliwack, B.C. was 11th on both vault and parallel bars, Robert Watson of Coquitlam, B.C., was 10th on parallel bars, Ken Ikeda of Abbotsford, B.C., tied for sixth on high bar and Steven Chaplin of Mission, B.C., placed ninth on high bar.

All four Canadian men are coached by Richard Ikeda at the Twisters club in Abbotsford, B.C.
