Hbc makes $400,000 contribution to Commonwealth Games Canada
TORONTO – The Hudson’s Bay Company (Hbc) continued its long-standing support of Canadian amateur athletes Monday, making a $400,000 donation to Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC).
The donation is apart of Hbc’s four-year, $1.6-million support of CGC in its preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games that will be held in Delhi, India
“Hbc’s initial support of Canadian sport and athletes began in 1992 with the relationship with the Commonwealth Games,” says Diane Gordon, Director, Hbc Community Investment. “We are proud to continue to support the Games, and look forward to cheering our athletes when they compete in Delhi.”
“The Commonwealth Games were founded in Canada, and we are honoured to continue to receive the support of such an iconic corporation as Hbc,” said CGC president Dr. Andrew Pipe. “Our long-standing partnership with Hbc has created a wealth of opportunities for Canadian athletes to reach the podium at the Commonwealth Games and other major international competitions. With Hbc’s help, we are able to send a full team to Delhi in 2010.”
Hbc, through its Foundation, has committed to raising $20-million by 2010 to help Canadian athletes reach their potential on the world stage by providing 200 Commonwealth Games, Paralympic and Olympic athletes with a $5,000 bursary each year.
Funds are raised through a number of in store promotions and national events such as the Hbc Run for Canada and Hbc Foundation Golf Tournament.
