COMMONWEALTH SPORT CANADA ANNOUNCES NEWLY ELECTED BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS
Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) is proud to announce the results of the election held during the organization’s AGM held on September 20th via a Zoom meeting. Keith Gillam (ON) was re-elected as Treasurer while Karen Hacker (ON) was re-elected as Director, both for four-year terms. Two new Directors were also elected, Trevino Betty (ON) and David Bedford (ON). Trevino Betty, an active business leader, is well known in the Canadian sport community as a retired national level sprinter and long jumper and now works as a motivational speaker. David Bedford is the CEO of Athletics Canada and was formerly Executive Director for Team Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia and also brings a significant marketing background, having worked many years with the Canadian Olympic Committee and IMG. These individuals join Directors’ Richard Powers, ON (President), Riley McCormack, BC (Athlete’s Council Chair), Claire Carver Dias, ON and Graham Smith, BC.
In addition to the Treasurer and Directors, eight Individual Members were also elected to four-year terms:

"On behalf of Commonwealth Sport Canada, I welcome the returning and newly elected Directors and Members to our organization,” said Richard Powers, CSC President. “We are privileged to have such dedicated and experienced individuals working on our behalf. With the Birmingham 2022 Games less than two years away as well as Hamilton, ON considering a bid for the 2026 Games, we have a busy year ahead of us. I look forward to working with our entire Board and membership to support Canada’s high performance athletes as well as continuing to work to enrich the lives of youth across the Commonwealth.”
Commonwealth Sport Canada’s priorities over the next two years include the following:
- Win the rights to host a Commonwealth Games
- Double Commonwealth Sport Canada annual revenues to $2M+
- Have Commonwealth athletes win 80% or more of Canada's medals at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games
- Canada's gender balanced and inclusive Team finishes Top 3 at the 2022 CWGs in Birmingham, England
- Increase the number of SportWORKS projects, abroad and in Canada
- Build the Alumni Program membership to 1,000+
