Partners of the Year: Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humaña-Paredes, gold medallists in the inaugural beach volleyball tournament at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Team of the Year: The “buzzer beating” Canadian Men’s Basketball Team which earned a silver medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

"On behalf of Commonwealth Games Canada I congratulate all the Canada Sport Award winners, especially Sarah, Melissa, Damian and the men’s basketball team” said Claire Carver-Dias, Canada’s Chef de Mission in Gold Coast. Commonwealth Games Canada is proud to be an integral part of the Canada's High Performance Pathway for the athletes & coaches to gain valuable experience, on and off the field of play, towards success in Tokyo."

The 41st Canadian Sport Awards were held September 20th in Ottawa, Ontario and were hosted by Alex Despatie (Olympic and Commonwealth medallist, and at the age of 13, youngest ever gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games with his gold medal in diving at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and Perdita Felicien (World Champion and ten-time Canadian hurdles Champion). On hand were close to 100 national team athletes as well as leaders in the Canadian sport community.

“We continue to see a strong correlation between success at the Commonwealth Games, and further success along the athlete pathway, notably at the Olympic Games,” said Richard Powers, President of Commonwealth Games Canada. “The fact that three out of four of this year’s Canadian Sport Awards for summer sport performance were won by members of Team Canada at Gold Coast certainly supports the value of the Commonwealth Games within the Canadian sport continuum.”

PCL Constructors Limited was a finalist in the “Corporate Excellence, National Team Support” category, due to its partnership with Commonwealth Games Canada. PCL, a world leader in construction, has been a supporter of Commonwealth Games Canada since 2004 and to date has raised more than $2.7 million to help defray the cost of Canadian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games.
