Canadian Shooters Make a Bronze Medal a Family Affair

The sister pair of Dorothy Ludwig (Langley, BC) and Lynda Hare (Edmonton, AB) captured a bronze medal together in the 10m Air Pistol (Pairs) competition on Tuesday at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, giving Canada its third shooting medal of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. 

The competition actually concluded in a three-way tie for top spot between the Canadian pair and the pre-match favourites from India and Australia.  In the end, using the competition tie-break system, Ludwig and Hare were slotted into the bronze medal position behind Australia and the winning Indian pair.  But make no mistake, while the pursuit for gold was the goal for the sisters, a step on the podium with bronze around their necks is still making for a very sunny day in Delhi.

“For a moment you think that if I could have just gotten one more 10, we’d have won the gold but we are both ecstatic with the result,“ said younger sister, Lynda. “We were confident going into the competition and, in the end, our consistent shooting won us a bronze which is absolutely fantastic.”

The pair believes that competing with each other gives them a definite advantage.

“We love shooting together actually. It’s less stressful being teamed up with Lynda as we know each other so well and we both support each other in our shooting,” said Dorothy after the competition. “To win a medal with Lynda makes it extra special.”

The pair will look to carry the momentum of their bronze medal into the 10m Air Pistol (Singles) event on Wednesday, the last day of the Games shooting competition. 

“We’re both shooting really well, really consistently,” said Lynda, “and if we shoot like that tomorrow, who knows what could happen.”
