Commonwealth Games Canada Shortlisted for Beyond Sport Awards 2012

Beyond Sport, the global organisation that promotes, develops and supports the use of sport as a tool for positive change across the world, is delighted to announce Commonwealth Games Canada has been shortlisted for the for the 2012 “Governing Body of the Year” award. Nick Keller, the Founder of Beyond Sport, commented: “The Beyond Sport Awards unearth leaders using sport as a tool for positive change and provide them with the resources, platform, contacts and opportunities to turbo-charge their growth and impact. We are delighted to reveal this year’s shortlist, which comes after many hours of deliberation from more than 25 experts in their field. To be chosen for a place on this shortlist represents a fantastic achievement.”Commonwealth Games Canada was chosen from a list of more than 33 entries. The other shortlisted organizations for this category are Australian Rugby League Commission and Rugby League. The winner, to be selected by a panel of Beyond Sport Ambassadors, will be announced at the 2012 Beyond Sport Summit in London, England, July 23 – 25. Canadian judokas strike for three gold medals

Antoine Valois-Fortier (-81 kg), Kelita Zupancic (-70 kg) and Amy Cotton (-78 kg), three athletes who will be representing Canada at the upcoming London Olympics, all claimed top honors on the day at the Orenburg European Cup, Sunday, in Russia.

US Open : A nice medal run for the Canadian judokas

It was a very long day, Saturday, for the Canadian judokas at the US Open in Miami, Florida, but it was well worth it. When it was all said and done, 12 of the 29 athletes that were in action on American soil went home with a medal.
