GLASGOW, Scotland (August 1, 2026) – As the curtain closes on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Team Canada is ensuring its impact extends well beyond the field of play.
In partnership with local charities, Team Canada will donate surplus team apparel, information technology equipment and operational supplies used during the Games to organizations supporting people experiencing homelessness across Glasgow.
The donations will be received by Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow and Simon Community Scotland, two organizations dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and helping people transition to safe, stable housing.
"One of our goals for Glasgow 2026 was to ensure our presence left a positive impact beyond competition," said Kelly Laframboise, Director, Team Canada 2026. "By donating items that can continue to serve a meaningful purpose, we're reducing unnecessary waste while supporting organizations making a real difference in the local community. We hope this small gesture reflects our appreciation for the warm welcome Canada has received in Glasgow."
The initiative forms part of Team Canada's sustainability efforts during the Games, focusing on responsible resource management and reducing waste wherever possible.
Simon Community Scotland is Scotland's largest provider of homelessness services, operating across four cities. The organization delivers a wide range of services, including community outreach, harm reduction programs, trauma-informed support, women's services and access to essential resources.
"Partnerships like this demonstrate how major sporting events can create meaningful social impact," said Emma Brookes, Service Lead, Street Outreach, Simon Community Scotland. "The donated equipment and supplies will help support our work with people experiencing homelessness while keeping useful items in circulation rather than sending them to landfill.”
Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow is a volunteer-led charity serving Glasgow and surrounding communities. The organization operates a soup kitchen twice weekly while also helping individuals move into permanent accommodation by providing furniture, household essentials, clothing and food parcels.
Representatives from both charities collected the donated items from Team Canada's headquarters at the Courtyard by Marriott Glasgow SEC on August 3, following the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games.
