Ryan Pelley Named SportWORKS Program Manager

Former SportWORKS Officer Now at the Helm of Program

OTTAWA – Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Ryan Pelley as Program Manager of the internationally recognized SportWORKS program, which operates in developing Commonwealth countries with the objective of delivering social and economic improvements through sport.

CGC is thrilled that Ryan Pelley, a former SportWORKS officer, returns to the organization as this Program’s Manager, bringing with him not only valuable on-the-ground experience with the program itself, but additional experience in senior leadership positions in Canadian sport, such as Executive Director of the Alberta Curling Federation and Hockey Players for Kids, to name just a few. Pelley, a holder of a Masters Degree in Sport Management, starts his CGC duties on January 8th.

“Ryan is the perfect candidate to join CGC as Program Manager of SportWORKS,” said Richard Powers, President of Commonwealth Games Canada. “With his background as a former SportWORKS Officer and significant experience in other senior roles in sport, he will bring a valuable set of skills that will help him continue to build the success of this international program.”

“I feel fortunate to once again become involved with the SportWORKS Program, now as Program Manager. The CGC is a leader when it comes to delivering positive social impact through sport. I look forward to joining the team and contributing to the continued growth of the Program”, said Ryan Pelley.

SportWORKS current program partners are Brock University and the Queen Elizabeth Scholars (QES) program. QES is a unique partnership of Universities Canada, the Rideau Hall Foundation (RHF), Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) and Canadian universities.

Since 1993, CGC has integrated sport for development (S4D) and sport development programming, to promote community and social development, and build national sport capacity throughout the Commonwealth. Through the SportWORKS program introduced in 2001, over 2 million youth in Commonwealth nations and territories have been supported by Canadian SportWORKS Officers.
