Moors tops at Toyota International gymnastics competition

TOYOTA, Japan -- Victoria Moors of Cambridge, Ont., (Dynamo) topped the field in the women’s uneven bars on Saturday on the first day of competition at the Toyota International gymnastics competition.

Moors, who won international acclaim at the 2013 world championships as the first female gymnast to land a double twisting, double somersault in her floor routine, scored 13.800 points to win the gold, edging Seon Mi Heo of South Korea with 13.600 points.

Wakane Inoue of Japan placed third with a score of 13.500 points.

In the men’s competition, veteran Ken Ikeda of Abbotsford, B.C. (Twisters) was the top Canadian, placing fifth in the pommel horse event.

Robert Watson of Vancouver, (Twisters) placed sixth and 10th on floor and rings and 
Zachary Clay of Chilliwack, B.C., (Twisters) placed 10th on pommel horse and 12th on floor.

Canadian men’s junior champion Steven Chaplin of Mission, B.C. (Twisters) was 12th on rings.

The competition concludes on Sunday with two more events for the women and three for the men.
