COTTBUS, Germany -- World Cup rookie Maegan Chant of Waterdown, Ont., won the bronze medal in the women’s vault on Saturday at the 37th Tournament of Masters in Cottbus, Germany.
Six-time Olympian Oksana Chusovitina of Uzebkistan topped the eight-woman final with a two-vault average score of 14.887, followed by Nöel van Klaveren of the Netherlands with 14.400 points and Chant at 14.150.
In her World Cup debut last weekend at the French International, Chant, 15, edged the veteran Chusovitina for the silver medal in the vault final.
But Chusovtina, at 37 the oldest female gymnast by far on the World Cup circuit, bounced back this time around to add to her another medal in her vault specialty to her vast collection dating back to the 1991 world championships.
Chant competes again on Sunday in the women’s floor final.
