CGC statement on WADA’s decision to reinstate RUSADA
"Commonwealth Games Canada is committed to clean sport”
OTTAWA (October 4, 2018) - I have read the various opinions and rationales from all sides about WADA’s recent decision to reinstate RUSADA. Whilst the Russian Federation is not a member of the Commonwealth and CGC is not in a position to criticize Russian Athletes or RUSADA, I would like to express the CGC’s strong concern with the precedent that may have been set by WADA taking this decision in this manner and WADA’s governance model that allowed this decision to be made.
We will address our concerns regarding WADA’s governance and approach to its decision making process with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and the Commonwealth Games Federation.
Richard Powers,
President, Commonwealth Games Canada
