CGC appoints Colin Higgs as Director of IDS

Ottawa - Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Colin Higgs to the position of Director of its International Development through Sports (IDS) branch.
Dr. Higgs is responsible for bringing clarity of purpose and direction to IDS as well as helping to shape its future role and strategic direction. He will also serve as the primary contact for partner relations.
His relationship with CGC dates back to 1994 when he was appointed as the Program Coordinator (Eastern Caribbean) for the Commonwealth Sport Development Program, the precursor to the current IDS program.
A tenured full professor in the School of Human Kinetics at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Dr. Higgs has done extensive field work in developing countries and has published and presented widely on both sport development and social development through sport.
He currently sits as a member of the International Paralympic Committee’s International Development Sub-Committee where he works on the Organizational Development Initiative (ODI) and is the lead consultant on ODI for the national Paralympic committees of Turkey and Palestine.

International Development though Sport (IDS) is a branch of Commonwealth Games Canada, a not-for-profit multi-sport organization that is the franchise holder for the Commonwealth Games.
Since 1993, IDS has been Operating in selected developing Commonwealth countries in Africa and the Caribbean and aims to increase collaboration and promote partnerships between local, national and international organizations to advance the concept and delivery of development through sport.
