STRATEGIC AREAS

The strategic plan of Commonwealth Games will apply over three business cycles (i.e. the period 2007–2018) and drives the activities, plans and budgets of our organization through the following strategic areas:

Sport Excellence

Goal:  CGC plays a pivotal, partnership role in increasing the performance success of Canadian athletes. The Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) are considered relevant and important by Canadian athletes, coaches and national sport organizations (NSOs).  

National / International Relations & Hosting

Goal: CGC extends its role and reputation within the Commonwealth and the Canadian sport system, including hosting a Commonwealth Games by 2030, at the latest.

Sport For Development

Goal: CGC contributes to Canada’s reputation as a leading sport nation by supporting (sharing knowledge, expertise, resources) the social development of individuals, communities and organizations within commonwealth countries using the transformative power of sport.

Branding & Communications

Goal: Clearly identify, educate and inform the public, partners and the sport community of CGC’s unique contribution to the Commonwealth and Canadian sport. Work collaboratively with CGC members, partners, stakeholders and the media building relevance and profile of the CGC brand.

Marketing

Goal: Improve the effectiveness of CGC revenue generating capacity, programs and activities securing a financial base for the long term.

Organizational Effectiveness

Goal: To demonstrate effective, best in class, governance and management practices.
