Paralympic Program swim team named for 2026 Commonwealth Games

OTTAWA - April 1st, 2026 - Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) and Swimming Canada are proud to announce the Paralympic Program swimmers who will compete at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled for July 23-Aug. 2, 2026.
The team named for the 2026 Commonwealth Games features seven swimmers (five men, two women) with a mix of experience including Paralympic and Commonwealth Games medallists.
“This is a strong and well-balanced team, bringing together proven Paralympic performers and emerging athletes ready to make their mark,” said Kelly Laframboise, Director, Team Canada 2026. “The Commonwealth Games are a key moment in their journey, and we know this group will race with confidence, pride, and the unity that defines Team Canada.”
"The athletes selected through the Commonwealth Games ranking system are a mix of experienced Paralympians with some newer athletes who have competed at world championships,” said Associate High Performance Director Jocelyn Jay. "Commonwealth Games has a long history of Canadian success and is a valuable international racing opportunity earlier in the summer. It allows athletes to test themselves and build confidence leading into the Para Pan Pacific Championships. We expect this group to be competitive and enjoy being a part of something larger with the integrated team.”
The women’s team is made up of Paris 2024 Paralympic teammates Katie Cosgriffe and Mary Jibb. Cosgriffe won silver in the 100-m backstroke S10 and bronze in the 100-m butterfly S10 at the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore. Jibb made her World Para Swimming Championships debut at the 2025 Championships in Singapore and claimed three medals including gold in the women’s 200-m individual medley SM9 in Americas record time and a bronze in the 100-m freestyle and 100-m backstroke S9.
Paralympic medalist and Commonwealth Games champion Nicolas-Guy Turbide leads the men’s team. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Turbide won gold in the 50-m freestyle S13 and set a Commonwealth Games record. He will be joined by his Paris 2024 teammate and Paralympic medalist Reid Maxwell and Paris 2024 teammate Alec Elliot as well as Fernando Lu and Jagdev (Jack) Gill, each with national team experience under their belts.
“Winning in 2022 was very exciting, a core memory and one of the big highlights of my career,” said Turbide, when remembering his 2022 Commonwealth Games experience. “The integrated Olympic and Paralympic programs all together shows us a different perspective. We get to see how things are on the Olympic side of things and they get to see what we do on our side as well. Our goals and objectives are very similar and having one team is something we look forward to.”
Cosgriffe, meanwhile, will be making her Commonwealth Games debut. The Paris 2024 bronze medalist in 100-m butterfly S10 matched that feat at last year’s World Para Swimming Championships. She also added silver in the 100-m backstroke and finished fourth in the 200-m individual medley, which will be her event in Glasgow.
“I’m super excited about it,” Cosgriffe said. “The Commonwealth Games will be a great opportunity to race. The event for me is an off event but I’m excited coming off world championships in September to get the opportunity to race and have fun with it.”
Cosgriffe was a club teammate of Ella Jansen’s and was on Ontario’s 2022 Canada Games team with Julie Brousseau and Delia Lloyd. She’s looking forward to the only international event that combines Olympic and Paralympic Program swimmers.
“It’s pretty incredible. I’m excited to get the opportunity to be on a team with some of these amazing swimmers,” Cosgriffe said.
The Canadian Paralympic Program swimmers will join the rest of the swim team and go direct to Glasgow and race the Games July 24-29 at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre. The Commonwealth Games are the only multi-sport event that features equal standing for sport and Para-sport events.
Glasgow 2026 will include 10 sports, including six Para sports. Up to 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories from across the Commonwealth will compete at the 2026 Commonwealth Games over 11 days of competition across the city of Glasgow.
