Archery Canada announces the twelve athletes selected for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi

OTTAWA, July 6, 2010 – Dietmar Trillus (King City, ON), Ashley Wallace (Redcliff, AB) and Olympians Crispin Duenas (Toronto, ON) and Marie-Pier Beaudet (Quebec City, QC) will lead a strong team of archers to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, October 3-14. Archery is back on the program of the Commonwealth Games for the first time since 1982 in Brisbane and Canada has earned the right to enter the maximum number of athletes (12) with its results at the last World Championship in Korea.

Dietmar Trillus, 52, won the 2007 World Championship and the 2008 World Cup in Lausanne in the compound bow division. Ashley Wallace, 22, is currently leading the overall standings of the 2010 World Cup in the compound bow division. Marie-Pier Beaudet, 24, a specialist of the recurve bow, competed at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, and won a silver medal in the team event at the 2007 Pan American Games. Crispin Duenas, 24, also competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in the recurve bow division and is currently ranked 10th in the world.

“It was fabulous to have witnessed the Commonwealth Trials in Winnipeg and to have the opportunity to meet and watch each archer as they qualified,” said Martha Deacon, Team Canada Chef de Mission. “We are very excited to support all of these archers as they shoot for podium finishes.”

“We are thrilled to be back on the Commonwealth Games program and to have earned the right to enter a full contingent of archers for the competitions in Delhi,” said Al Wills, President of the Federation of Canadian Archers. “After fielding very successful compound teams at World Cups and Championships we can finally send athletes in both recurve and compound divisions to compete internationally at a major multi-sport games. Our Commonwealth Trials were very competitive and we are sending a strong team that will be aiming for podium finishes in all categories.”

Athletes named by Archery Canada to Team Canada for the 2010 Commonwealth Games were selected during the Commonwealth Trials, held July 2-4 in Winnipeg, MB. All athletes will compete in the individual and team events.
