Jennifer Abel collects third medal, Riendeau also on podium at Commonwealth Games

EDINBURGH, Scotland – Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., earned her third medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games on Saturday with silver on women’s three-metre springboard while Vincent Riendeau of Pointe-Claire, added a bronze on men’s tower.

Esther Qin of Australia was the surprise victor on three-metre with 347.25 points followed by Abel at 324.70 and Hannah Starling of England third at 316.95.  Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., was sixth.

‘’I’m a little disappointed with my performance,’’ said Abel, the one-metre champion Friday and second on three-metre synchro with Ware on Wednesday.  ‘’Obviously I would have wanted three gold medals but I had a solid meet overall and I’m happy with that.  I was strong mentally and consistent.  I’m already excited about next season.’’

Abel also won three medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

On men’s 10-metre tower, Tom Daley of England was the winner at 516.55, Ooi Tze Liamg of Malaysia second at 433.70 and Riendeau followed closely at 429.25.  Maxim Bouchard of St-Constant, Que., was fifth at 399.20.

‘’It went really well,’’ said Riendeau, 17, in his major Games debut.  ‘’I came here for the experience and didn’t have high expectations.  It’s really crazy to think I got a medal.’’

Canadian divers end the Games with seven medals one less than four years ago in Delhi.

‘’The Games were one of the most wonderful experiences of my life,’’ said Bouchard.  ‘’The volunteers are really nice, it’s a very cool city and I’m enjoying myself.
