Dandeneau drops 11 in tough battle against England
Team Canada dropped a hard-fought 15-12 decision to England in its second pool play game at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Sunday.
Canada battled throughout the contest but was unable to completely battle back from England’s early 10-3 run.
“I think it was just a little nerves kind of got to us,” Kady Dandeneau explained. “We didn’t execute on some of the stuff that we needed to, and it just got away from us there in the beginning. We let them get a big lead, unfortunately.”
Dandeneau led the Canadian offence with 11 of the team's 12 points, knocking down two shots from beyond the arc and all three of her free-throw attempts. Puisand Lai added Canada's other point.
Canada pulled down nine rebounds, including one on the offensive glass, and committed three turnovers in the tightly contested matchup.
Rosie Long recorded one rebound, while Dandeneau grabbed a team-high five boards to go along with her game-leading scoring performance.
“You’d rather it happen here than in the final,” Dandeneau added. “It gives us some good video, some ideas, if we get to play them again, what we’re looking at.”
Canada wraps up pool play on Monday when they face Australia at 9 a.m. EDT.
Canada falls to England in men’s pool play
In men’s action, Team Canada came up short in a 20-10 loss to England in Pool A action.
Canada was limited to 10 points on 10-for-28 shooting.
Garrett Ostepchuk led the Canadian attack with three points while adding a team-high three rebounds. Reed De'Aeth and Lee Melymick chipped in three and two points, respectively, with Kyrell Sopotyk also scoring a pair off the bench.
“They started out strong,” said Melymick. “We weren't quite ready for the pace just at that second, but they're a good team and we can beat them on another day, so we just got to keep on fighting.”
Canada stayed within striking distance early but struggled to generate offence from beyond the arc, missing all six of its two-point attempts.
The Canadians will look to bounce back on Monday when they wrap up pool play against Australia at 7:45 a.m. EDT.
