CGC and Evolutra partner for new CGC website

May 30, 2008

OTTAWA - Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Evolutra Corporation of Ottawa, a firm specializing in web solutions for clients around the world. The first product of this partnership, the new web portal www.commonwealthgames.ca, was unveiled today by the two organizations.

The partnership agreement names Evolutra Corporation as a Proud Sponsor of Commonwealth Team Canada 2010 through 2012.

“It was important for us to work with an internet solutions provider who understands the needs of a multi-sport games organization like ours,” said Thomas Jones, Chief Executive Officer of CGC. “We have been working with Evolutra since 2002 as a vendor and we are very pleased to welcome them today into the CGC family as one of our many dedicated partners.”

Evolutra Corporation’s President and CEO, Robert Benvie, expressed his firm’s genuine enthusiasm at the prospect of collaborating with CGC in the years to come:  “We are very excited about this partnership because it’s such a good fit; both our organizations have been working alongside for a number of years, both have a strong sense of national pride, an international focus and a commitment to innovation and excellence”, Mr. Benvie said earlier today.

The portal is powered by EvolutraTM WCMS Version 3.0, a powerful web content management system that allows content to be taken and managed by and from multiple sources.

“This website allows us to receive information from all of our sport and development partners via RSS feeds and allows us to get the word out to Canadians about their accomplishments in a more time-sensitive manner,” states John Bower, Manager of Communications for CGC. “Over the past year, we have worked diligently with Evolutra to design the best possible website for our organization and we are pleased today, to unveil the results.”

The new portal will not only be able to share and easily integrate content to other partners and associates but, also,  will act as a social network to the Commonwealth Games community with its different features and EvolutraTM modules such as online blogs, social bookmarks, newsletters, online photo albums and live interviews with athletes.  It will also deliver live statistics for the different events, providing visitors with real-time up-to-date information on results. Visitors will be encouraged to visit the site on a regular basis and will find that content can easily be found thanks to its powerful advanced search. A simple countdown to the games will ensure that everyone knows exactly when events will be held throughout the Commonwealth Games. Furthermore, a special module has been developed to better manage the showcasing of sponsors for CGC.

Six-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Alexandra Orlando has agreed to write a blog for the new CGC website, as she chronicles her preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.  Seodhna Keown, Africa Program Officer from CGC’s International Development through Sport (IDS) branch, will provide insight from the world of social development in Africa.

Once the 2008 Canadian Sport Leadership Corps (CSLC) interns are in place in Africa and the Caribbean, they too will join the new site as regular bloggers.

The new portal is the first phase of a three-part upgrade to commonwealthgames.ca, with the second phase being released prior to the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in India this October.  That phase will include the integration of an athlete database including results from the 2006 Melbourne Games and the 2008 Youth Games.
