COMMONWEALTH SPORT CANADA ANNOUNCES TEAM CANADA LEADERSHIP FOR COMMONWEALTH GAMES IN GLASGOW

OTTAWA (September 2, 2025) - Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) is proud to announce the leadership team for Team Canada heading into the 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking place July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland. 

The appointments include proven leaders across operations, communications, medical, and athlete engagement who will shape the vision, strategy, and delivery of Canada’s Commonwealth Games mission. The leadership team includes: Chef de Mission – Erica Wiebe, Director, Team Canada 2026 – Kelly Laframboise, Chief Operations Officer – Chris Taylor, Chief Communications Officer – Patrick Kenny and Chief Medical Officer – Dr. Mickey Moroz.

The Commonwealth Games played a pivotal role in my own journey as an athlete, and I’m excited to support the next generation as they step onto this international stage,” says Erica Wiebe, Chef de Mission, Team Canada 2026. “I have immense confidence in our mission staff—this is a team of dedicated, experienced, and passionate leaders who are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and high-performance environment for our athletes. Glasgow will be an incredible host, and together, we’ll help Canada shine.” 

The 2026 Commonwealth Games represent a pivotal moment for the movement—an opportunity to reimagine the Games model, spotlight innovation and sustainability, and reaffirm the power of sport to unite diverse nations through shared values.

About the Leadership Team 

Erica Wiebe, Team Canada’s Chef de Mission, brings a decorated career as a Commonwealth and Olympic Champion in freestyle wrestling, along with professional experience in sport governance, safe sport, DEI, and athlete relations. A celebrated advocate and commentator, Wiebe embodies the leadership, inspiration, and lived experience that define this role. 

Kelly Laframboise has been the operational heartbeat of Commonwealth Sport Canada for over three decades. Since joining CSC in 1989, she has served at nine major Games and six Youth Games, and now leads Team Canada 2026 as Executive Director. Kelly also contributes to international planning as a member of the 2026 Commonwealth Sport Reference Committee and currently serves as Chair of Major Games Canada. 

Chris Taylor, appointed as Chief Operations Officer, is a seasoned logistics expert and four-time Commonwealth Games Mission Staff member. From cargo to accreditation and village operations, Chris has consistently delivered seamless Games experiences. He is also a graduate of Carleton University and brings experience from the U.K. Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport. 

Patrick Kenny, Chief Communications Officer, returns to lead Team Canada’s strategic communications, public engagement, and media relations for his second Commonwealth Games in this role. With 20+ years of experience supporting Canadian athletes at Olympic, Pan Am, and international events, Kenny’s deep understanding of media relations and brand positioning makes him a vital asset to the team. 

Dr. Mickey Moroz, Chief Medical Officer, is a Montreal-based primary care sports and exercise physician with deep experience supporting Canadian athletes on the world stage. Dr. Moroz currently works at the Institut National du Sport du Québec and at McGill Sport and Exercise Medicine Clinic. He has supported athletes at events including the 2023 Jeux de la Francophonie, 2025 Junior Pan American Games, 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago, and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. He currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Artistic Gymnastics Canada and team physician for Water Polo Canada. 

With over 60 combined multi-sport Games between them—including Commonwealth, Olympic, Paralympic, Pan Am, and Canada Games—this leadership group will guide Team Canada’s planning, execution, and mission delivery in Glasgow, ensuring athletes have the support needed to perform at their best and a successful and safe Games. 

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will bring together 74 nations and territories in a celebration of sport, culture, and community. Team Canada will once again compete with pride, unity, and determination on the global stage on this important path to Olympic and Paralympic success.
