From the Commonwealth Games to the Olympic Stage: Celebrating Team Canada Athletes and Leaders at Milano Cortina 2026!

As Canada competes at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, several familiar faces from the Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) Movement are continuing to compete and contribute on the world stage as athletes, leaders and key support staff. Their journeys highlight the powerful connection between the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics, and the dedication of athletes, coaches, officials, and mission staff, always proud to represent their country.

As a four-time Commonwealth Games medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK, Kelsey Mitchell has already cemented her legacy as one of Canada’s premier sprint cyclists. Following her dominant Commonwealth Games performance, she went on to capture Olympic gold in Track Cycling at Paris 2024, showcasing her world-class speed and competitive drive.

Now, in an exciting new chapter, Mitchell is representing Canada once again, this time in bobsleigh at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Her transition from velodrome to sliding track exemplifies her athletic versatility and resilience to rediscover her love of a new sport.

Erica Wiebe: Leading with Purpose

Two-time Commonwealth Games Champion and Olympic Champion, Erica Wiebe, is now serving as Chef de Mission for Team Canada for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. At the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, Wiebe is working with the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) in Athlete Relations, Safe Sport and DEI.

From podium performances to athlete advocacy and team leadership, Erica continues to shape safe, inclusive, and high-performance environments for Canada’s top athletes.

Claire Carver-Dias: From Alumni to Leader

Two-time Commonwealth Games Champion and Olympic medalist in synchronized swimming, Claire now serves as President of Commonwealth Sport Canada. Claire represents Canada on the International Commonwealth Sport Executive Board as Regional Vice-President Americas.  Carver-Dias also recently expanded her global leadership impact by being elected Americas Region Representative for the World Olympians Association.

At the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, she is proudly supporting both Commonwealth Sport and the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Behind the Scenes Excellence

Great Games require great teams behind the scenes. Shravan Chopra, who supports IT & results for the Commonwealth Games’ missions, is bringing his operational expertise to the 2026 Olympics. He is currently at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games assisting Team Canada with outfitting and MIR3 security.

Storytelling and media relations are central to translating the Games experience to fans in Canada and around the world. Sylvie Bigras, who has served as the Press Chief for the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and 2018 is the Press Officer for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Caroline Sharp, Media Attaché for Glasgow 2026 as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games is serving as Media Attaché for Team Canada’s snowboard team at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Their vast Olympic experience and dedication continues to translate across multi-sport Games to ensure athletes’ stories reach Canada and around the world.

Antoine Atallah serves as the General Manager of Major Games Integration & Health Services with Major Games Canada, a collective that brings together key sport organizations including Commonwealth Sport Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee. With a background in athletic therapy and sport administration, Antoine has participated in many sport medical missions, helping plan and deliver integrated health services across Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and other major multi-sport events.
