COMMONWEALTH GAMES CANADA CONGRATULATES NEW MEMBERS
New Board and Individual Members Elected at AGM
OTTAWA – Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) congratulates the new Board and Individual Members elected at the organization’s Annual General Meeting held in Edmonton, Alberta.
Three new Board of Directors Members were elected:
Martha Deacon – A well-known and involved Canadian sport leader, Deacon comes from the sport of badminton. She was Chef de Mission for Canada at the Delhi 2010 Games and has been involved as a coach or team leader at five other Commonwealth and Olympic Games. She is an Executive Board Member of the Canadian Olympic Committee, recently retired from the Waterloo Region District School Board as Superintendent and is now consulting in Organizational Excellence. Martha is passionate about the possibility of transforming all communities through sport.
Simon Farbrother – A former City Manager with the City of Edmonton, Farbrother was the Vice Chair of the Edmonton bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Canada. Born in England, he has lived most of his adult life in Edmonton and Waterloo, ON. During his tenure with the City of Edmonton, he was involved in attracting many high profile sporting events to the city, including World Cups, Olympic Qualifiers and other major international events.
Karen Hacker – A lawyer based in Toronto, Hacker spent five years with TO2015, the organizing committee for the Toronto 2015 Pan and Para Pan American Games. She has also worked at Canadian Interuniversity Sport (now known as U Sports) and in the past, in the entertainment business, printing and publishing and toy licensing.
CGC thanks retiring Board members Bruce Wilkie (BC) and Linda Cuthbert (ON) for their tremendous contributions during their terms on the organization’s Board of Directors.
Also elected at the CGC Annual General Meeting were Individual Members Holly Abraham, Bill Dowbiggin, Ralph Hutton, Rene Leblanc, Greg Maychak, Wayne Parro and Sabrina Razack. Commonwealth Games Canada offers its sincere appreciation to retiring Individual Members Rachel Bedingfield, Lauren Couture, Lori Johnstone, Allan Prazsky and Mike Sutton for their support and participation.

These new members bring significant expertise and experience to our organization, which will assist us in our mandate to build a better Commonwealth through sport, as well as maintaining our reputation as a global leader within the Commonwealth sport movement.”
