Team Canada’s Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Team Secures Silver in the Team Final
On the first day of competition at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and the first opportunity for a Gymnastic medal, Canada has won Silver at the Arena Birmingham. Joining Canada on the podium were Team England taking the gold on home soil and Cyprus with the bronze.
The 2022 men’s team consists of Mathys Jalbert, Félix Dolci, Jayson Rampersad, Kenji Tamane, and Chris Kaji. With a grand total of 241.200 points, together they earned third in the Floor Exercise (38.650), second in the Pommel Horse (38.600), second again in Rings (42.250), third in Vault (42.200), third on the Parallel Bars (41.450), and lastly sixth on the Horizontal Bar (38.050).
After winning the silver medal, team member Kenji Tamane of Laval, Quebec celebrated the strong support of his mom.
“My mom went to the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand in 1990 and I just feel so happy to be here and make her proud,” said Artistic Gymnastics athlete Kenji Tamane. “She passed down the torch to me so I’m really happy to accomplish those goals and make Canada proud.”
